SLEEP DEPRIVATION
Every individual has not getting sufficient amount of sleep in modern lifestyle.It is known as "Sleep Deprivation".It is also known as "Insomnia".We have to know about meaning of Sleep Deprivation, it's causes, symptoms, effects/problems, treatment and Good sleep habits and tips to reduce Sleep Deprivation for all age-groups. Especially, the students, working women and men are facing Sleep Deprivation problems in their daily life.I want to share some of the best tips to control Sleep Deprivation.

1. Meaning of Sleep Deprivation: -
Sleep Deprivation is a common problem faced by men, women, Teenagers and Students.This can be due to many reasons such as Stress, Harmonal Changes, Lifestyle, job problems, kids problems, love failure, marriage problems, pregnancy, period problems, menopause stage in women etc.Sleep Deprivation leads to several health problems. Human body needs atleast 7 hours of sleep,but having less than that leads to Sleep Deprivation. Sleep is also an important need such as taking food, breathing Oxygen.
The National Sleep Foundation (NSF) says, sleep duration for all age groups are as follows:
- New borns (0 to 3 months) - 14 to 17 hours (per day)
- Infants (4 to 11 months) - 12 to 15 hours (per day)
- Toddlers (1 to 2 years) - 11 to 14 hours (per day)
- Pre-Schoolers (3 to 5 years) - 10 to 13 hours (per day)
- Schoolage children ( 6 to 13 years) - 9 to 11 hours (per day)
- Teanagers (14 to 17 years) - 8 to 10 hours (per day)
- Adults ( 18 to 64 years) - 7 to 9 hours (per day)
- Older Adults (above 65 years) - 7 to 8 hours (per day)
The main symptom of Sleep Deprivation are lack of sleep / sleeplessness and excessive sleep in daytime.
2. Causes of Sleep Deprivation:-
There are many reasons for Sleep Deprivation in kids, teenagers, men, women and Old age people.They are as follows:
Kids: The new born babies can not sleep much time.There are many reasons behind this:
- Having some health problems like stomach-ache.
- Getting hungry
- Wetting their diaper.
- Their clothes are irritating (Rough clothes) to them.
- Hear freaking sounds.
- Addiction to Mobile phones, tablets, electronic gadgets(This is the major cause).
- Concentrating more on playing games.
- Watching TV for more hours.
- They are Hyperactive.
Teenagers: Students have future goals and they don't want to waste their time. They are preparing for their academic and competitive exams to reach their expectations. Hence, they have to read more time and that leads to Sleep Deprivation.They sleep for 5 hours per day only,which leads to health problems.
Women: Now a days,Women have to play multi-tasking roles such as house-wife, working women, etc.
The causes of Sleep Deprivation in Women are as follows:
- Hormonal Changes.
- Period problems (acute stomachache, backache).
- Career problems.
- Work place problems (Sexual harassment).
- Busy lifestyle.
- Menopause.
- Marriage problems.
- Obesity.
- Children issues.
- Family problems.
- Financial problems.
- Health problems (Diabetics, BP, etc).
- Aging problems.
Men : Some Employees working in Public/Private sectors, Business people, Celebrities, working in Security wings, Farmers, Drivers of Public transportation, Goal setting unemployed youth who are preparing for civil services, state service commission, Bank exams., Professionals such as Doctors, Engineers, Software, Advocates, Journalists, Sports personnel, Entrepreneurs of newly startups etc., are facing Sleep Deprivation problem.
The causes of Sleep Deprivation in men are as follows:
- Stress and strain.
- Students goal setting.
- Depression.
- Working shift hours (Night shift).
- Money earning race.
- Financial problems.
- Health problems (Diabetics, BP, etc).
- Family problems.
- Work tension (Burden of heavy work).
- Overtime duties of Drivers.

Old-age persons : The Sleep Deprivation is the common problem in old-age people.Health problems, Aging problems, Financial problems, Family problems are main causes of the Sleep Deprivation.
3. Symptoms of Sleep Deprivation: - Sleep Deprivation effects in Children (at School, College) and Adults (at Work place).
The Symptoms of Sleep Deprivation are as follows:
